New Teams for Spring 2012: BRYC will be fielding a 10u team and a second 12u team to begin tournament play Spring 2012. If your daughter is interested in playing at a more competitive level please contact the coach for the specific team.
The coaches of these teams and other BRYC coaches along with the Robinson coaches will be hosting a 2 hour clinic each Sunday starting January 8 and running through February 26. The clinic is from 12:00pm-2:00pm each week. The cost is $10 each week and will be paid at the time of the clinic.
We will be working on throwing, fielding, hitting and sliding. Additionally, coach Mitch Hughes will be offering a pitching lessons from 8am-12pm. There is an additional cost for the pitching lessons. See the flyer for all the details. The clinic is great whether you want your daughter to try out for a travel team in the spring or just get extra practice at a higher level. The girls can show up to as many as fits your schedule or interests.
General: BRYC has select teams at the 18U, 16U, 14U, 12U and 10U levels, depending on the number of available players. The player's age bracket is based on her age of January 1 of the calendar year. All BRYC select teams use the name "Stingrays". Where BRYC is working to develop a select team, that team is the "Sharks." For further information about select teams, please contact the coach for the specific team, or send an email to
BRYCSoftballJim at aol.com.
Purpose: The BRYC Select Program is designed to offer girls the opportunity to experience softball on a more competitive level against teams throughout the DC metropolitan area and mid-Atlantic region for the Spring, Summer, and Fall seasons. This select program does not lose sight of BRYC's commitment to provide young ladies with the opportunity to experience softball in an atmosphere
that encourages and promotes teamwork, friendship, and good sportsmanship.
Commitment: Participation in the Select program requires a commitment on the part of the coaches, players, and parents. Time commitments are established by the individual coaches for both off-season and on-season practices. A 16U or 18U Select team can play over 26 games during the summer season. Younger Select teams participate in both the spring and summer seasons, and can play up to 52 games in the combined spring/summer season. All teams generally play a fall season with limited tournaments and games.
Parents of players on select teams need to understand that being on the team means a commitment to try to make all practices and games. The teams try to have few substitutes at games so that all players get good opportunities to play. This means that the coaches need to know that all players will try their best to make all practices and games. If a player and parent cannot make this commitment, then select softball is not the sport to play.
Encouragement and support from parents is as critical as the financial requirements to play this level of softball. The financial commitment is set as each team determines the number of tournaments in which they wish to participate. Costs range from $100 to $300 per season depending of the number of tournaments (plus associated travel cost). Teams may ask parents for more funds or may conduct fund raisers to help pay for uniform parts, equipment or tournaments. Individual players are responsible for purchasing their own gloves and shoes.
Selection: Participation on a select team is by invitation or select tryout only. In some age categories, there may be more than one team. At some levels, the select team plays "B" level softball in a developmental, yet competitive, environment. If you have interest in trying out for a select team, please contact the coach of the team at your age level.
